| The European standards introduce the concept of grading systems
according to the degree of risk of intrusion

Each grade of system has particular requirements for certain components.
The equipment and alarm transmission system incorporated in a system must
itself be of a suitable grade to satisfy the overall system grade. E.g. if
a system is to be designed and installed to be grade 3, and it
incorporates PIRs, then each of these PIRs must meet the requirements
for grade 3 PIRs. If just one grade 2 PIR is fitted, the
entire system is then a grade 2 system. The grade of system cannot be
higher than the lowest grade of components or used within it.
Assessment relates solely to the grading and the design of the Intruder
Alarm System according to DD CLC/TS 50131-7. The grading and design are based
on a survey of the premises and information available at the time, including
any valuations or other information provided by the customer or the
customer’s representative (e.g. the insurer).
The European Standards also define 4 environmental classes
of equipment,
according to the nature of the situation in which the equipment will be
used

The environmental class of components must be appropriate to the
environmental conditions at its position of application.
